Open Houses and Walking Tours

Sargent House

Waterville Historical Society will offer one of their 2019 guided walking tours of the historic downtown area of Waterville on Saturday, August 24 at 9:00 am at the Robbins House Museum, 114 S. River Rd.  It will focus on Waterville as a river town prior to the opening of the canal in 1843 and include sites and stories along River Road, Second Street, Farnsworth Road, and South Street.  In about an hour, participants will return to the starting point in time to visit the 1838 Robbins House and the circa-1834 Sargent House museums, which will be open from 9:00 am to noon.

At noon, an Uptown Tour will begin at Wakeman Hall, 401 Farnsworth Rd. and will cover the historic businesses, stores, and stories along the Third Street business district which sat along the canal.  The Archival Center located upstairs at Wakeman Hall, will be open the same day from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.  It contains a great deal of information about the Waterville area and its families.  It is also open the same hours every Wednesday.  The Archives will also be open on August 31st for those that would like to visit. The Wakeman Archives will be open but we don’t have any water in the building or bathroom facilities.
